Supermarket Hidden Secrets

Posted by Mel on May 19, 2012 in DEALS & TIPS

Ok, we all believe  our supermarkets offer the best and worse choices, and its up to us to chose well. But, what about their practices to entice us to buy a product that is less that what it appears to be., or has less than sanitary shelving. Here are three things that caught my disgust “eck” level.  1. Checkout conveyor belts are NEVER cleaned, and found to have such toxic bacteria that can cause meningitis. 2. Spraying veggies looks harmless enough, but the water is recycled and many times has bacteria. 3. The fish you buy might not be the fish you think. It was discovered that Lemon Sole might really be Flounder which is a cheaper fish. Looks the same but it tastes different. Once you realize it, its already cooked. 4. Spraying fake smells for you to impulse buy what was not on your list, like bread or cinnamon buns. These are but a few, and will keep you posted on more “ech” store practices.

Charlese Theron with No Teeth?!

Posted by Mel on May 19, 2012 in OPINION

Charlese Theron confessed she was totally toothless until the age of 11 due to a serious bout of Jaundice as a baby. She was given strong doses of antibiotics that rotted her baby teeth which then had to be all removed. She also revealed that her abusive alcoholic father was shot to death by her mom in self defense, when he threatened Charlese life. She was “discovered” at 16 by a fashion scout and claimed she agreed to model for it would allow her to travel, which she loves to do.  Because she endured a difficult childhood with parents and not being considered beautiful because of her teeth, she prefers movie parts with more substance and not cast on her beauty. Her motto for life, that she adopted from her mom: “don’t be 80 & lying on your death bead wishing you’d done it any other way”. Now that’s a philosophy to follow.

Meat. Don’t Save it.

Posted by Mel on May 19, 2012 in DEALS & TIPS

We are all trying to cut down on portions, by eating half and saving the rest for another day. This might be a fine practice but did you know that once you freeze meat,  you can NOT freeze it again for another day.  The fat content may cause meat to become rancid once de-frosted, for it can promote bacterial growth. The best thing to do is to refrigerate leftover meats, which by the way can last up to four days.
