Origin of “Dont throw out the baby with the bath water”

Dont throw out the baby with the bath water” Surely sometime we have used this phrase to make a point, and where did it originate from. Well here is is. Baths at one time consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water because he bathed first. Next were the sons and male guests, then the woman and children, lastly the babies.  By then the water was so dirty and murky, you could actually lose someone in it, hence the saying.
