Origin of: “Its Raining Cats & Dogs”

I’ve used this lots of times: “Its Raining Cats & Dogs” but never really knew why I was saying it, only that its always been used when there is a rain storm. Well here is its Origin. In olden times, the houses had Thatched roofs, (thick straw piled high, with no wood underneath) During cold weather, small animals, like cats, dogs, mice and bugs would keep warm on the roof, however, when it rained, the straw became slippery, and the animals would slip and fall off. Hence the saying was born.
