Artificial Sweeteners in MILK?
Four yrs ago, the International Dairy Foods Assoc. and National Milk Producers Federation petitioned the FDA to change the definition of “standard of identity” of milk and 18 dairy products (yogurt, sour cream, 1/5 & 1/5, etc) and allow artificial sweeteners (Aspartame) and exclude it in consumer labeling. Their “reasoning” it might HELP in fighting childhood obesity, for kids would chose milk products over soft drinks. Although Aspartame is considered safe by the FDA, there is some linkage to Cancer. In February. FDA has asked the public for their opinions and concerns. Deadline is May 21, 2012. Make your opinions known, by calling the FDA at 240-402-2371.
